Children’s Art, Music and Dance Programs FREE or Discounted

Alberta Government Children in Care
During their time in care, children are provided with very similar services, supports, supervision and guidance that are typical for children in Alberta. Whether through their caseworker, caregiver or community programs, and based on their age and specific needs, children in care can receive:

  • Recreation allowance (i.e. sports fees)

Alberta Government Compensation guide for foster and kinship caregivers
This financial information guide provides caregivers and staff with an overview of financial responsibilities that Child and Family Services (CFS) or Delegated First Nations Agency (DFNA) and caregiver parents have when a child is placed in care. It explains the financial process to access funds for children in care.

Abbottsfield Music Program (Edmonton)
Offers free music lessons for children 6 to 12 years old in a safe environment. Musical instruments will be provided at no cost.

Alberta Music Education Foundation
Keyboard for Kids and  Strings for Kids
To provide free music instruction in the area of piano and violin to interested, at-risk or disadvantaged youth
To enhance personal characteristics such as self-esteem, creativity, self-discipline and personal expression so that the students can become noble and caring citizens of their community and better overall students

CASSA Sponsor-a-Student Program – covers approximately 50% of the actual cost of their participation

Cornerstone Youth Centre (Calgary)
Free Program – Provides youth the opportunity to practice and create music, use of various instruments including drums and keyboards, access to guitar amps and offers a digital recording console

E4C ArtStart (Edmonton)
Helping children gain access to high quality arts instruction. ArtStart is now in its ninth year and it continues to focus on children aged 5-16 from low income families.

Free downloads of local music Library’s musical database Two sound booths Stanley Milner branch Thursday, where local musicians can practise and record for free.

Legacy Children’s Foundation – Alberta
Gift of Music Program Providing experiences that enrich the lives of financially challenged and otherwise ‘at risk’ children, youth and families, giving them opportunities to experience success, improve their self esteem and build confidence, are issues that have become critical for children in Alberta’s turbulent economy.
Music Lessons The Dr. Stanley G. Finn “Gift of Music” Fund assists financially challenged children and youth in becoming involved in opportunities to take part in music experiences by providing them with financial support to cover the cost of music lessons and other music program involvement
Musical Instrument Bank Established to provide musical instruments for loan or permanent ownership to children and youth who without this assistance would not be able to take part in this type of potentially life enhancing musical experience.

School of Alberta Ballet
There are various funding bodies that provide financial support in means of grants and scholarships for families who have children participating in Dance or in financial need in general. Some of these are eligible for Summer programs as well as Full Year.

Southern Alberta Art Gallery
Believes every child should have access to art and in an effort to eliminate financial barriers, SAAG is excited to introduce the Encouraging Creative Minds Bursary. The bursary is designed to assist families who are unable to pay the full fees for our children’s programs: Art Club, Tender Fingers and Art In Media.

SAAG is able to offer this bursary through the generosity and support of our members, sponsors and friends. All bursary applications and requests for information are kept private. Bursaries will be granted to those applicants who demonstrate the greatest need and are only available while funds last

The Heart of the City Music Program (HCMP) Edmonton
Provides a way for members of the community to share their love of music with children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn how to play the piano or the guitar.
